Welcome to the The Bridgnorth Lions Walk and Marathon 2019 !
The Bridgnorth Walk was established in 1967 as a way of raising money for local, national and international charities. In 2017 Bridgnorth Lions took over as organisers.
The event regularly raises over £100,000 for good causes.
Bridgnorth Lions has announced a major expansion to the 2019 Walk weekend event – for the first time the traditional walk event will take place in conjunction with a newly established Bridgnorth Marathon for runners. The combined event will be known as the Bridgnorth Lions Walk and Marathon. The event takes place on Monday May 27th, the late spring Bank holiday.
While respecting the incredible history and traditions of the Walk, 2019 brings an opportunity for competitive runners to test their abilities by competing in a Marathon. The 26.7 mile route will follow the same path as the walkers to the top of the Brown Clee but then take a very hilly, challenging route down and round the back of the hill, before rejoining the “traditional” walking route returning to Bridgnorth via Ditton Priors. This event will not be for the faint hearted…more details are explained later.
Runners will set off from the high street at 9.00 am, one hour earlier than the walkers and the fastest are expected to return from the 26.7 mile route around 12.30pm.
The senior walk measures 21.5 miles (34.7 kilometres) while the over 40s have the option of a route two miles shorter. There is also a separate 7 mile junior fun run and walk which is organised for children aged 9 to 14.

Volunteers and Spectators
Since taking over the event Lions have made a number of safety and other innovations to ensure a competitive event for participants. But the day is also enjoyed by more than 100 marshals who give up their time to provide water and encouragement every mile along the route. Local organisations such as the WI, Rotary club, scouts and ATC cadets, as well as individual families or groups of friends, man the water stations and cheer the participants.
Additionally, many family members and friends cheer participants along the way with many ending up in Bridgnorth High Street to cheer them home.
For those visiting Bridgnorth for the first time it’s an historic market town in Shropshire, 15 miles from Wolverhampton, Kidderminster and Stourbridge and only 13 miles from Telford. On the event day the town is buzzing with market stalls and visitors enjoying the historic environment.
